Staying in Budapest E-mail

Staying in budapest:

1. Currency Exchange

In Budapest you can change money in the banks, in official currency exchanges and at your hotel! Usually the hotels don't give you a good exchange rate. Official currency exchanges have the best rates and many of them are open even on Saturday. Don't change money on the street!

If you choose Adrenalinebomb as the program organizer for your stag party we will help you to find the currency exchange that gives you a good if not the best exchange rate!

2. Credit card

Most restaurants, bars, shops etc...accept credit cards!

If you lose or have your credit card stolen cancel it immediately by phoning the relevant 24-hour emergency number.

Don't carry all your cards with you - leave at least one in the hotel safe!

During a stag weekend it has happened many times to our clients that they couldn't take out money with their credit card even if they did take out money with it before. In this case you have to contact your bank!

They can see the card has been used abroad and for security reasons (in case it has been stolen) they can suspend operation on it!

3. ATM

ATM's are all over the city. During your stag weekend it is not a problem to find one. ATM's give out Hungarian forints! When you take out money please double check the zeros of the amount you want to take out! It is a common mistake instead of typing in for example 30.000 (

£80 /€ 115) people type in 300.000! (£800 /€1150!!!!).

4. Identification

During your visit in Hungary you are required by Hungarian law to be able to present your passports or photo-driving licence as identification at all times. During the weekend you should carry a photocopy of your passport at all times.

5. Lost passport

If you lose your passport or it is stolen the British or Irish Embassy can issue an emergency passport, valid for a single journey, to help you get home. If you lose your passport you should immediately report the loss to the local police and then to the embassy. Ask the Police for a written statement that you have reported the loss. You will require this to obtain a temporary passport.

6. Telephone

The Hungarian mobile suppliers are T-mobile, Vodafone and Pannon. At arrival your phone will change to one of them depending which one your mobile suppliers prefers.

Public phones operate with 20, 50 or 100 Forint coins or with telephone cards that can be bought in hotels, service stations, post offices and news-stands.

7. Electricity

220 V / 50 Hz

8. Public Transport

The public transport in Budapest generally good.

The BKV (Budapest Public Transport Company) operates 3 metro lines (M1-yellow, M2-red and M3-blue), local buses (they are blue), trams and red trolleybuses. You can buy tickets at ticket offices in the metro stations and at newsstands.

Public transport generally starts at around 04.30 and until 23.30. Budapest has a good night transportation system. Night bus line numbers are triple-digit, starting with number '9' and buses run every 15-60 minutes from around 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. However to eliminate any possible problem we usually don't recommend to our stag groups to use night public transport.

9. Taxi

They have yellow number plates and TAXI is written on them. Taxi companies use different tariffs and the bigger companies charge less.

You can call a taxi by phone and the car will usually get there within 10 minutes. Switchboard operators generally speak English.

The most well known taxi companies are: Budataxi, Budapest Taxi, Citytaxi, Főtaxi, Taxi 2000, Tele 5 Taxi, Rádiótaxi and 6x6 Taxi.
