Hungary is joining the Schengen Union, borders open on Dec. 21. 2007. Stag parties in Budapest will continue without borders.

While borders within the Schengen-zone will disappear on Dec. 21. 2007, passport control at Hungary's airports will remain until Mar 30 2008.

With Hungary joining the Schengen Union, its borders with other member states Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia will disappearOther borders, for example with EU-member Romania, will remain until that country joins the Schengen treaty.
Hungary has used Ft41bn ($237m) from Schengen funds, complemented by some Ft10bn ($57.5m) of its own money, to strengthen its "outside borders" before joining the agreement. That included mounting CCTV systems at all border stations, night vision cameras for the border guards and IT enhancements.
